My coaching practice for writers evolved over time, beginning in 1990 when I first worked as a writing instructor and discovered that writers often need help with their lives in order to get the writing done. Since then I have continued to teach writing and to coach writers, finally establishing a coaching practice in 2005: InterPlay Coaching and Consulting. I am credentialed as a professional coach (CPCC), and am a member of the International Coach Federation (ICF).
A professional background in a wide variety of disciplines allows me an unusually broad understanding of what it takes to build a writing life, all the while maintaining a sense of balance, purpose and, ultimately, fulfillment.
I have worked as staff and freelance in publishing as an editor, writer and journalist and have published in print, radio, television and film. I have been a faculty member at Ohio University, Salt Institute for Documentary Studies, the University of Southern Maine, Maine College of Art, Vermont College at Norwich University, and have taught writing workshops privately and for Maine Writers and Publishers Association.
Films I have written, produced or directed have won national awards, have aired on public radio and television, have played in museums and independent art houses and are in national and international distribution.
I have trained and worked as a psychotherapist, as a substance abuse counselor and as a fitness technician. I have conducted workshops (stress reduction, mentoring, weight loss, life transition, e.g.) for universities, businesses, and privately.
I hold degrees from Kent State University (BA in English literature and anthropology), New York University (MFA in film and television), a certificate of advanced graduate study in marriage and family therapy from the University of New England and have earned the CPCC (certified professional co-active coach) certificate recognized by the International Coach Federation (ICF) from Coaches Training Institute (CTI).
